I say BRAVO to CVS, Walgreens, Stop & Shop Won't Sell Rolling Stone's Dzhokhar Tsarnaev Issue. "Many people feel that the photo the editors chose makes Tsarnaev look like a smoldering teen heartthrob and not the accused murderer and terrorist that he is. " and now many retail chains like CVS and Walgreens are boycotting the issue alltogether after much public outrage. But not everyone agrees. This is another article I read in favor of the controversial Rolling Stone cover titled: Rolling Stone’s Boston Bomber Cover Is Brilliant. As I read throgh the article last night about the controversy that prompted me to post I do agree with the authors main point of "depicting a terrorist as sweet and handsome rather than ugly and terrifying, Rolling Stone has subverted our expectations and hinted at a larger truth." - but my beef is not with the content of the article - it is the way it is being promoted. And although Rolling Stone has been known to publish meaty journalistic pieces in the past it is not the norm, it is primarily an entertainment magazine, and their cover is normally used to reflect an entertainment slant. I believe its all about selling magazines and the controversy it would ignite. In fact- you could say it does a disservice to the reporter who wrote the article as many will undoubtable boycott the magazine all together before reading the piece. Once again it's all about shock value and good PR. I think watching the aftermath of the Boston Bombing for 2 days straight on TV was shock value enough. If you are not well versed in the theat of terrorism by now - its origins, ideology and the successful recruitment tools used against the 18-24 male sect worldwide, - will this article really make a difference? Here's a link to my fav Greg Gutfeld and take on the issue which I think sums it up very nicely. Rolling Stone Piece -- in 50 Seconds
